The St George’s Parent Association aims to promote and organise social and fund-raising events and to act as an informal liaison between the parents and staff. Fund generated are used for extra, non-essential facilities for the girls and the school.
Membership is open to any parents with daughters at the school and comprises of parents from each year group. The Headmistress and members of staff are also invited to attend.
Items that the Parent Association have fundraised for in the past have included: a school minibus, the swings and information screens in the Cormack Hall and dining room. The Parent Association also makes donations to charities at home and overseas from funds raised. In particular, the Parent Association has been instrumental in raising funds for the R.E.A.D School for Underprivileged Children in Dunlod, India.
The Parent Association has been instrumental in organising seminars for both parents and pupils which have covered topics under the overall theme of ‘our daughter’s wellbeing’. Presentations this year have included ‘The Teenage Brain’, ‘Revision Techniques’ and ‘The impact of stress on your daughter’s brain and how to help her manage it’.
Socially, the Parent Association has organised Quiz Nights along with other smaller functions during the year, and then a larger Ball type event every three years, designed to foster relationships between parents in the school.
Every year the Committee is present to meet new parents at tea on Fresher’s Day and also supports the School, meeting new parents at Open Days.
