Learning Skills - Head of Department:  Mrs W Moyles

As a small school, St George's aims to assist each girl with her individual learning progress and offer enrichment to the more able as well as supporting those who need additional help.

The school tests each girl on entry to assess her strengths and weaknesses, and tutors liaise with colleagues and parents to keep a constant eye on progress. Every girl has the opportunity to improve her learning by the acquisition of study skills at an appropriate level and is given specific help in planning essays, taking notes and effective revision.

If staff recommend an educational assessment, the school can arrange for girls who are found to have learning difficulties to have a weekly support lesson through the Helen Arkell Dyslexia Centre which sends specialist teachers to the school. Girls can also be given individual help in organisational skills or strategies for focused learning if needed.

The school expects to establish an Individual Learning Profile for each girl which will highlight her capabilities and needs.
