ENGLISH
AS AN ADDITIONAL LANGUAGE
Head of Department: Mrs
M Bruce
Overseas students are
well catered for at St George's. English is taught in a relaxed
environment on an individual basis or in very small groups.
Students for the most
part study the full curriculum, but some may take a reduced number of
subjects at GCSE level in order to concentrate on their English. They
may be entered for external English examinations in situations where
GCSE English is inappropriate for them, or where their particular
English qualification is not recognised by a university. These
examinations include: The Cambridge First Certificate (FCE) and The
International English Language Testing System (IELTS). Every effort is made
to integrate the students into all areas of school life so that they
feel it has been a very valuable experience by the time they are ready
to leave.
