The Friends of St George’s raises funds each year for the School and also for charitable causes. Over the past years, the Friends have made contributions to projects in the School varying from buying an MPV to allow small groups of girls out on educational visits and trips to a Wii games console for a boarding house. In addition, the Friends support charities near and far.
Because of your generosity at the Rose Ball last summer, a donation of £3000 was made to Slough charity SHOC, a day centre for homeless and vulnerable adults. The money is being used to help fund their Healthy Active Lifestyle project which is enabling them to take their socially excluded clients out into the community to experience sport activities which, as many of them come from difficult backgrounds, they have never been able to take part in.
Further away from home, St George’s is also making a difference to Indo International School in Dunlod, India. Funds donated, also from the Rose Ball, have enabled two huge water tanks to be built which can store 10000 litres of water. All the pipelines and plumbing have also been installed. The major advantage is that they now have to start their bore well only once a day. This prevents wear & tear of the bore well and saves maintenance costs.
The money is also helping to provide tuition for Senior Students. The Grade 10 & 12 students who are weak in certain subjects are being given extra tuition before and after school hours to help solve their various problems as they do not get any help from their parents, many of whom are illiterate.
