On Thursday 17th April the 1st years had a very successful history trip to Mountfichet and Hedingham Castles. The weather was kind to us, as was the M25 traffic. The girls enjoyed seeing the various exhibits in the cottages and revising their history in a more tangible way. It was also interesting to compare the two types of castle, one being a reconstructed motte and bailey and the other one of the best examples of a stone keep castle. Defensive features were revised, as were the weapons used to lay siege to these castles. Almost everyone had a chance to try on the chain mail or stand in the stocks – though we don’t know what they had done to deserve this! The girls also had a chance to do some brass rubbings, and these are now decorating the dining-hall. Mrs Potter |
