Sixth Form Rules

Time out of School

Day girls should arrive before 8.15 am and leave after 6.30 pm.

Monday to Friday: Sixth Form may go out at lunchtime and tea-time in groups of two, including Royal Ascot Week.
Upper Sixth boarders may, with the permission of their Housemistress, go out one evening during the week; permission will not be given if a girl is behind with her work or has a school commitment.
Lower Sixth are allowed to go out on a weekday evening only in special circumstances.

Parents should seek permission before organising any outing during the school week and should consult the relevant housemistress to avoid weekends with major school commitments such as Open Days and House Parties. Birthday parties should be arranged at the weekend. Absence during the working day must have Miss Moody's prior permission. Girls may travel alone on public transport if parents have returned the permission slip.

Weekends: Lower Sixth may go out from noon on Saturday, Upper Sixth from 8.30 am and, after Christmas, may be allowed the privilege of leaving after prep on some Friday evenings. All must return for chapel on Sunday on closed weekends and 8.00 pm on Sunday on open weekends.  Only the first and last weekends of term are closed for Sixth Form.  Weekend arrangement forms must be given to housemistresses on Wednesday or permission to go out may not be given.

Girls must always sign out before leaving school.

Rules apply equally to all girls and we appreciate parental support in ensuring this is seen to be the case.

Cars and Driving

Driving lessons

Lower Sixth girls may take driving lessons at lunchtime, teatime and weekends, provided they have no school commitments but not during private study periods.
Upper Sixth may take driving lessons when free.

Cars in school

Lower Sixth may not have cars at school.
Upper Sixth girls may have a car at school under the following conditions:

  • Possession of a full driving licence and having sufficient experience of driving alone after passing her test.
  • Parents must have completed the permission form, available in the Parents' area of the website.
  • Miss Moody must have given permission.
  • The Bursary will then issue a car permit which must be displayed on the car windscreen whenever the car is in school.
  • Girls must park only in the Sports Hall car park.
  • Girls must drive carefully and sensibly and observe the speed limits around school.

We must consider everyone's safety; failure to observe these rules will result in the car permit being withdrawn.

Travelling in cars

All girls must have written parental permission to carry other girls as passengers or to be a passenger in another girl's car.

Dress Code

Sixth Form girls do not wear uniform, but must be smartly dressed at all times.

  • Best dress uniform: plain black trousers or skirt and jacket with a white blouse or plain white top. Day girls should keep ‘best dress' in school.
  • Trousers must be full length and plain black and must fit loosely on the legs. Leggings and footless tights are never allowed and tights must not be torn.
  • Skirts must be no more than three inches above the knee, fairly plain and may not be denim or any tight fitting material.
  • Tops must be plain, no logos or hood, must cover both shoulders, must meet the trousers or skirt in the middle even when sitting down and must not be low cut.
  • Shoes must be plain black and flat or low-heeled and must be in good condition. Boots, backless shoes and flip-flops are not allowed.
  • Jewellery, make-up and nail varnish must be discreet.

Any girl violating the dress code will be required to change even if she has to go home to do so. Repeated violation of the dress code will mean wearing best dress uniform every day.
