The Headmistress
Rachel Owens was born in Bolton, Lancashire and educated at Mount St Joseph Convent School, after which she read History at Somerville College, Oxford. Whilst at Oxford she represented Somerville within the University Student Union, and played netball and rowed for her College. After graduation she flirted with a career in the Law, but quickly realised her heart was with History and switched to teaching in 1992.
Aims and Ethos
The school aims to encourage the individual development of each pupil, focusing on her strengths and abilities to produce the most appropriate educational profile for her. Great importance is placed not only on academic excellence, but also on moral and spiritual welfare.
The Pupils
Although the school has an Anglican foundation, we welcome girls of any faith, or indeed of none. Whilst the majority of our pupils live in the United Kingdom, we also have pupils from all over the world. We are always pleased to see how well these girls from overseas settle in and soon feel at home.

Catering
Both staff and pupils agree that the food at St George's is remarkable. There is a wide variety of dishes available, and it doesn't just look attractive - it is nutritious as well. Mealtimes at St George's are something to look forward to!

Charities
St George's takes very seriously the need to think about others outside the school community and to try to help the less fortunate in various practical ways.
Each form chooses a form charity to support each year and raises money through different fund-raising schemes. Recently this has included cake and sweet stalls, games, cleaning staff cars and providing refreshments at school functions, and it is sometimes tied in with a chapel assembly.
Guest speakers talk to the school about their work. Some chapel collections on Sundays go to specific charities and we take collections in school throughout the year for various causes. It is important that giving to charity remains separate from the fund raising that some girls do for their own expeditions and sports tours.
