Whole School

One term on after receiving the prestigious Talk Education 2024 Innovation in Nutrition and Food Award, we have continued to set new standards in school catering with our commitment to nutritional excellence, sustainability and pupil wellbeing.

The school's innovative approach to dining, which earned recognition at last year's Talk Education awards, has evolved further in 2025, with enhancements to both menu offerings and dining experiences. As this year's awards season approaches, St George's reflects on its achievements while pushing boundaries in educational catering.

"Over the past year, we've built on the success of winning this award by introducing new seasonal menu options, expanding our partnerships with local suppliers and further reducing our environmental footprint. Our goal is always to create meals that are not only nutritious but also engaging, educational and enjoyable, enhancing the overall experience", says the Domestic Bursar at St George's.

One of the biggest changes this spring term has been the refurbishment of The Moyles Room, our specially designed quiet dining space for neurodiverse pupils. Named after Mrs Wendy Moyles, our retired Head of Learning Skills, this calm and colourful space is tucked away just off the main dining hall. With its vibrant blue and green décor and plenty of natural light, it's a peaceful spot where pupils who prefer a quieter mealtime can feel at ease.

We are really impressed by your food waste reduction initiatives, your efforts to use local suppliers and seasonal ingredients, your commitment to the wellbeing of your catering team and your introduction of a quieter dining space.

The school's in-house catering team continues to prioritise the connection between nutrition and academic performance. A well-balanced diet is essential for concentration, cognitive function and overall academic performance. At St George’s, the importance of nutrition in education is at the forefront of menu planning. The school’s thoughtfully designed meals ensure that the girls receive the necessary sustenance to maintain focus and energy throughout the day. Whether it is a wholesome breakfast to begin the morning or a balanced lunch to sustain afternoon learning, the school’s catering team is committed to fostering an appetite for learning.

The school actively reduces food waste by repurposing surplus ingredients into creative street food-style dishes and is continually working towards minimising plate waste through strategic menu adaptations.

The inviting dining environment, which was refurbished last year, continues to provide a welcoming space where pupils can make informed food choices. This approach aligns with the school's holistic view of education, where mealtimes are seen as an extension of the learning experience.

As the 2025 Talk Education awards approach, St George's Ascot remains at the forefront of innovative school dining, continuing to deliver an outstanding experience that balances nutrition, sustainability and pupil wellbeing in every meal served.
