Year 11 pupils at St George’s Ascot are celebrating today as they receive their GCSE results, marking the culmination of two years of hard work and commitment across a broad academic programme.
This year, 38% of all grades were awarded at 9 (the highest possible grade) and 8, with 55% at grade 9–7. Alongside these strong headline results, 89% of pupils outperformed their baseline predictions, demonstrating the excellent individual progress made across the year group.
There were standout performances across the curriculum, with particularly strong results in English Language and English Literature, where 65% and 63% of grades respectively were awarded at 8 or 9. In both Art and PE, 60% of grades were awarded at 8 or 9, reflecting the breadth of strengths within the year group.
While the headline grades provide plenty to celebrate, the progress behind them is particularly significant. 89% of pupils achieved results above their baseline predictions, reflecting their commitment as well as St George’s highly personalised approach to learning and its focus on enabling every pupil to fulfil their individual potential.
Small class sizes mean teachers know their pupils exceptionally well and can provide the right balance of support, stretch and challenge for each individual. Strong pastoral care sits alongside this academic ambition, giving pupils the confidence and support to make progress while pursuing their interests and ambitions beyond the classroom.
Academic success at St George’s also goes hand in hand with a rich and varied school experience. Pupils achieving excellent results this year have balanced their studies with national and international sporting and performance commitments, as well as embracing opportunities including the school’s Australian exchange programme.
I am proud of this year group and all they have put into their studies, supported throughout by teachers who know them well and have challenged and championed them.
It has been a privilege to see them grow in confidence and contribute so much to the wider life of St George’s. They have brought energy and enthusiasm, while being wonderfully encouraging to one another along the way.
These results are an important milestone, and also mark the beginning of the next stage of their journey. I am looking forward to welcoming them back to Sixth Form to embark upon their A Level subjects, build on these strong foundations, explore their interests in greater depth and embrace the possibilities ahead.
