We are delighted to offer pupils an incredibly wide range of sporting experiences throughout their senior school years, understanding that one size will not fit all and helping each individual to find an option that suits. All of our dedicated PE staff are qualified coaches in at least two sporting disciplines, and the majority of our coaching is undertaken in-house. Alongside our PE staff, a specialist coach offers private lessons in tennis.

Sports offered at St George's include:

  • Fitness offered through the redesigned, state of the art Technogym facilities
  • Lacrosse
  • Netball
  • Gymnastics
  • Handball
  • Tennis
  • Swimming (including Water Polo, Lifesaving and Synchro) in our stunning swimming pool
  • Athletics
  • Dance with girls accessing multiple genre in line with their preferences
  • Cricket
  • Badminton
  • Basketball
  • Volleyball
  • Football
  • Cross Country
  • Yoga
  • Ultimate Frisbee

Alongside a busy calendar of local fixtures and tournaments in a wide range of sports, the girls also compete in National Tournaments and Cup Competitions in lacrosse, netball, swimming and cross country. Exposure to a higher level of competition gives our girls invaluable experience, helping them grow in confidence and develop ambition both for themselves and for their team. St George’s has been proud to win the National Small Schools Lacrosse Tournament a number of years in a row in recent years.

We host a full complemennt of inter-house sports competitions which help foster strong relationships between girls in all year groups. The House Sports events provide a wonderful opportunity for the girls to experience competition, sometimes for the first time, and often lead to new attendees at practice and new members on school teams.

PE lessons are compulsory for pupils in Years 7 to 11. All girls are encouraged to remain active throughout their senior school years. We focus on developing mobility and movement competency as well as all round fitness both of which form the foundations for successful performance in a range of sports and in turn builds confidence and self esteem for everyday life.

We offer Physical Education at both GCSE and A level, and pupils go on to read a multiplicity of Sports related subjects at university.

Our GCSE in Physical Education equips pupils with the knowledge, understanding and skills to develop their own performance in sport. They develop their understanding of socio-cultural influences on participation in sport, and the benefits of physical activity to health, fitness and well-being.

Our A Level in Physical Education develops knowledge, understanding and skills relevant to physical education. Pupils gain an understanding of the scientific and socio-cultural factors that underpin physical activity, and demonstrate their ability as either performer or coach.

There are a significant number of sporting clubs within our extensive co-curricular programme at St George’s and many girls relish this opportunity to enjoy and improve their sport outside of the ‘classroom’.

Those who are particularly talented and enthusiastic in Sport have opportunities through the year to attend workshops that cover a wide range of relevant topics including nutrition, sports psychology, training schedule and strength and conditioning. We also host Sports Clinics delivered by specialists in their field, for example GB sprinters have come to coach athletics, national players have coached lacrosse and Surrey Storm players have coached Netball.

We provide one-to-one mentoring support to girls who are training and competing to a high level to help them balance their school work with their training and competition commitments.

Our facilities are tremendous and include six floodlit netball courts, eight floodlit tennis courts, three lacrosse pitches, discus cage and shot put area, long jump pit, four rounders pitches, a brand new dance studio, superb fitness suite, two squash courts and refurbished sports hall where we undertake fitness, badminton, gymnastics, trampolining, football, handball, yoga, basketball, volleyball, cricket, netball and indoor hockey on a rotational basis during the year. The jewel in our crown is a state-of-the-art six lane, 25-metre indoor swimming pool which was opened in September 2019.

“Coaching from dedicated sports staff has really encouraged our daughter, learning new sports and flourishing in those she already loved.”
