House Activities

Houses are structured vertically and include girls from Year 7 right up to the Upper Sixth. 

Every pupil at St George's belongs to one of our four Houses, creating a strong sense of community, belonging and friendly competition from Year 7 through to Sixth Form. Through sporting, creative, academic and charitable events, pupils develop confidence, leadership, teamwork and lifelong friendships while enjoying some of the most memorable moments of school life.

The four Houses are Alexander (A), Becket (B), Churchill (C) and Darwin (D).

Belonging from Day One

This association encourages integration across the year groups, a sense of camaraderie, and gives the girls many opportunities to lead and initiate their own activities. House events run throughout the year and include House Parties and House competitions in a range of sporting, artistic and intellectual pursuits.

Leadership Opportunities

House competitions are largely organised by our Sixth Form Prefects pupils (House Captains) with support from the member of staff who is Head of House. Giving our Sixth Form Prefects valuable experience in planning events, leading rehearsals, mentoring younger pupils and inspiring participation across the School. 

House Captains are supported by a team of senior pupils who help lead and organise House activities. For example, Sixth Form pupils take responsibility for many of the early rehearsals for the House Drama and Music Competitions, as well as selecting the material and shaping the programmes.

Competition Throughout the Year

Throughout the year, pupils earn House points through academic, sporting and creative competitions. Every point contributes towards the annual House Championship, culminating in the presentation of the winning trophy at Prize Giving.

The achievements of each House competitions go towards the House Championship with the winning House Captain being awarded at the culmination of Prize Giving at the end of the Summer Term. An Academic Shield is awarded each term and is based on merits given by members of staff.
