From curiosity to confident decisions

Our Futures programme runs throughout the School from Year 7 to Sixth Form, and follows the Gatsby Benchmarks combining academic guidance, personalised support and real-world insight.

Pupils are supported at every stage, from exploring their own strengths and how these might connect with future careers to making informed post-18 decisions about university, apprenticeships, employment and more. We believe that success depends not just on what you know, but on how you think, how you adapt, and how well you understand yourself. Through partnerships with organisations such as Unifrog, pupils can engage with a wide range of opportunities that bring potential career pathways to life.

Years 7–9 Discovering Interest

In the early years, the focus is developing personal understanding and curiosity. Through PSHE lessons, co-curricular opportunities, visiting speakers and wider discussion, pupils begin to understand their strengths and interests, build confidence in new areas and explore the world beyond the classroom. This early focus on self-awareness provides the foundation for decision-making for GCSE options and looking further ahead into the future.

Years 10–11 Developing Direction

As they move into GCSE years, the SGA Futures programme extends further. Pupils are supported to make informed A Level choices, explore possible career pathways and develop a deeper understanding of their skills.

To do this we follow structured guidance and reflection, explore work experience opportunities following GCSEs and take part in external workshops and seminars to support career thinking. It is a time to begin to connect SGA Sixth academic choices with future possibilities.

Sixth Form

In Sixth Form, pupils are encouraged to take ownership of their future. They are supported through a structured and highly personalised programme that brings together academic development, reflection and real-world insight. Regular individual meetings with their tutor, the Head of Sixth Form and the Deputy Head, Co-Curricular and Connections, offer opportunities to discuss their post-18 options.

Learning how to learn

All pupils take part in a structured, tailored Executive Function programme, delivered by Mrs Debbie Kratt, Head of Sixth Form. This enables them to manage their time and workload effectively, plan and prioritise, work independently and learn ways to approach challenges with confidence

Academic and super-curricular development

Each Georgian builds depth through completing the Extended Project Qualification (EPQ), subject exploration beyond the classroom and wider reading and research.

Real-world insight and employability

Through careers lunches, guest speakers and events, all pupils throughout the school have the opportunity to engage with our alumnae and industry professionals across a wide range of fields. These experiences bring career pathways to life and provide relatable role models. Hearing directly from those who have taken different routes, including university and degree apprenticeships, helps pupils understand that there is no single path to success.
