In the second of two articles introducing the new Sixth Form leadership team at St George’s, Head of Psychology and new Deputy Head of Sixth Form, Emma Shingles talks honestly about the way pupils at St George’s develop confidence as they progress through the school and reflects on the ambitions she has for this dynamic group of Sixth Form girls. With a busy couple of weeks of A Level mocks for our Upper Sixth complete, her reflections feel remarkably timely and apposite.

'At St George's we offer a bespoke education where individuals can thrive and take on new and exciting opportunities. I am looking forward to supporting the girls across the whole Sixth Form with this journey. The Sixth Form will go by incredibly quickly. In years to come the girls will look fondly back at this incredible point of their life, at the large number of close friends and the amazing opportunities they enjoyed.

One of my focuses in this new role will be championing apprenticeships and career opportunities after Sixth Form.'

It is important to all the Sixth Form team that the girls leave St George's well prepared for the wider world and ready to play a positive role in tomorrow’s workforce. The enrichment programme will compliment this drive to keep pupils open minded and knowledgeable of how to best create the foundations for success in their chosen pathway.

The Sixth Form girls at St George's perfectly balance their own determination to be individually successful in all they do with revelling in their responsibility of role models in the school community. The Sixth Form are able to feel separate but still integrated through opportunities such as peer mentoring, the House system and Sixth Form led clubs.

I am always so impressed by the girls' energy and motivation to have a positive impact on others at St George's.

They are a brilliant group of girls to work with and it is a pleasure to support the growth in their confidence and ambitions over these two years.'
