At St George’s, girls traditionally enter at 11+, 13+ and 16+. We value every girl's individuality, spirit and character. There's no such thing as a typical St George’s girl! We assess each girl holistically to discover more about them, considering their wider potential rather than just their knowledge.
To apply for entry to St George’s, applicants must first be registered with us. The registration form should be completed and submitted together with a £200 non-refundable registration fee.
Registrations must be received by 31 October preceding the required year of entry.
Once girls have registered for possible entry to St George’s, they will be invited to attend our popular Future Georgian Day (a non assessed taster day) held in the September of Year 6. This is a wonderful opportunity for girls who have applied to enjoy a variety of activities, experience life at St George’s and enjoy meeting teachers and pupils.
Our assessment for entry to St George’s is held at the end of November. Candidates sit a combined Maths and English paper (one hour) as well as an online CEM (Centre for Evaluation and Monitoring) test consisting of Maths, English, Verbal Reasoning and Non-Verbal Reasoning (1 hour). The CEM test is designed to evaluate potential rather than knowledge and so no preparation is required.
During the day, girls are interviewed (in pairs) by the Head, or one of the Deputy Heads. Each girl will be asked to think about a topic for conversation to act as an icebreaker for an informal discussion. Some girls may choose to bring a small prop (photograph, book, medal, souvenir or artefact) to aid them.
Finally, we will ask for a reference from your daughter’s current school. We won't just consider your daughter's academic profile but her all round potential and so this reference forms an important part of the process.
Girls wishing to sit for a 13+ deferred entry place will sit 11+ exams in the November of Year 6. Successful applicants will be offered a reserved place in December which they should formally accept by the beginning of the following March. This option is for pupils attending 13+ Prep Schools.
Girls who have accepted deferred entry places will be invited to a ‘Keeping in Touch Day’ prior to entry, as well as other key events such as school productions.
Registrations must be received by 31 December preceding the proposed year of entry.
Entrance exams for Year 9 entry consist of English, Maths, Science and an online assessment run by CEM (Centre for Evaluation & Monitoring) consisting of Maths, English, Verbal Reasoning and Non-Verbal Reasoning. These exams are held at the end of January preceding entry. Candidates are also interviewed by the Head or member of the Senior Leadership Team. Each girl is asked to prepare a short two minute talk on a topic of her choice. Some girls choose to bring a small prop (photograph, book, medal, souvenir or artefact) to help with their discussion.
St George’s welcomes applications from candidates wishing to join the school for A Level study.
Once registered, girls will be invited for an interview with the Head of Sixth Form or another senior member of staff. Offers are made conditional on iGCSE/GCSE results, and a school reference.
Any offer of a place made will be contingent on meeting our minimum admissions criteria of achieving at least six grades 9-4 at iGCSE/GCSE, and grade 6 or above in subjects that applicants would like to study for A level.
International applicants will be asked to sit 16+ papers in the subjects they are hoping to study at A Level. This helps to reassure applicants that they have an aptitude for their chosen subjects and reaffirms their choice. If English is not the applicant's first language, she will also be asked to sit a written EAL paper.
These exams can be invigilated at the applicants current school, the local British Council offices or at St George's. Girls will also be required to attend an interview to be held virtually, or, at St George’s, before the offer of a place can be made.
School references, a copy of the applicant's passport, reports and any other additional information relevant to her application will also be requested.
