Ruth's passion for fashion began during her time at St George's, where she studied Textiles through to A Level. Alongside four A Levels and an Extended Project Qualification (EPQ), she embraced every opportunity to challenge herself academically, developing a love of learning that continues to shape her career today.
After building a strong creative foundation at St George's, Ruth completed a Foundation Diploma in Art and Design before graduating with a First-Class BA (Hons) in Fashion Design from Arts University Bournemouth. Her university experience combined hands-on craftsmanship with digital innovation, allowing her to explore both traditional fashion design and emerging technologies.
During her degree, Ruth had the opportunity to collaborate with Burberry on a menswear capsule collection. The experience gave her valuable insight into the fashion industry and inspired her to think more deeply about how clothing can be both functional and meaningful. It also introduced her to advanced digital design tools, including Lectra and CLO3D, sparking a fascination with the future of digital fashion. From exploring virtual spaces to experimenting with 3D design, she enjoyed pushing the boundaries of what fashion could become. Her innovative work was recognised when she was named a finalist for the Digital Fashion Award at Graduate Fashion Week.
For the past two years, Ruth has worked as a private teacher and tutor while developing the business skills needed to launch her own fashion label, Tavz Clothing. Building the brand has been both her greatest challenge and most rewarding achievement, requiring her to learn every aspect of running a fashion business. From navigating global supply chains to creating detailed technical packs that transform initial sketches into finished garments, the experience has given her a comprehensive understanding of the industry.
Today, Tavz Clothing represents the culmination of years of dedication, creativity and perseverance. Seeing her designs come to life and knowing that others enjoy wearing them is exactly what inspired her to pursue a career in fashion. Although she never imagined launching her own brand so soon after graduating, it is a decision she is incredibly proud to have made.
Reflecting on her time at St George's, Ruth credits the school with instilling the determination that has underpinned her success. Always willing to put in the hard work, she developed a mindset of resilience and commitment that continues to serve her well as she grows her business and pursues new opportunities within the fashion industry.
